new year’s.

well there’s no way i could’ve anticipated the epic trip i ended up getting to take at new years!! i met up with my friend Sheila in Dublin and after a good catch up, by the next morning we were on the road bound for Portstewart in Northern Ireland! five of us in the car (us and three frenchies) made for a good trip up, arriving just before the sun set. it was the best feeling to have the sea nearby and fresh air in my lungs again. i can’t really explain how stunning and beautiful that part of Ireland is… even in the wind and cold and fleeting rain it was gorgeous.

there were eleven of us (one adorable baby too) all together to celebrate as the new year came in. we ate and drank well, including ratatouille and cheese fondue, flambéed bananas and bailey’s hot chocolates. i’m afraid to say i was too chicken to join in, but even with it being less than 2 degrees outside, some of them braved the icy waters and went for a swim (warmed appropriately by some irish whiskey).  as the countdown to 2013 hit 0 there were hugs and well wishes all round, it was sweet, and a great beginning to the new year 🙂
