the ruhr museum was one of the places i had on my Essen to do list from the very beginning but it wasn’t until the last weekend i was there that i managed to finally visit. five of us made the trip out to the museum which is situated inside the old coal mining building (Cokerei auf Deutsch) and it was quite interesting to see all of the stuff on display, and for me i particularly loved the documentary style images of some Essen inhabitants (some are below).
the view from the rooftop was probably my favourite bit. although we were pretty much left gasping by the freezing cold wind that struck us as we entered onto the roof from the stairwell, the view was quite something. i loved seeing the little houses lined up row by row, the many paths and roads from a higher view, as well as the pipes and ways in which they’d transport coal around the massive grounds of the Cokerei.
