as part of my studio project this semester at uni i’m looking at family portraiture – the ways it’s changed, the importance of it, the way it’s displayed etc etc. it’s a big topic which i will look at in two papers, studio as well as theory. as part of it, i am focussing on bigger families. my nana passed away a couple of weeks ago and she was one of twelve. it was so interesting to go through all of the photos and look back at her family’s pictures, particularly at the similarities and differences between the twelve. it’s not everyday you come across these kind of big families, you know?
on tuesday in the Western Leader (a free local paper that’s delivered to households in Western Auckland) a small little blurb was published putting the call out for families who deem themselves large to contact me and be a part of my project. so far the response has been quite good! so i’m looking forward to beginning the process of meeting and photographing these people! if you know anyone who may be interested, please pass my details on… below is the advertisement.
